Rules of Gear Acquisition
Ive bought and sold a lot of gear in my time. Below are my rules for gear acquisition. (This is what happens when a Star Trek DS9 fan rewrites the 10 commandments for his hobby)
- Never Buy a synth that doesn’t excite you
- Never sell a synth that still excites you
- Never sell a small format mixer. You will eventually need it
- Never buy gear based on promised future updates that may never come
- Never sell stands or racks. See # 3
- More gear means more infrastructure. The growth curve of a setup is exponential
- Do not use eBay while drunk
- When in doubt, don’t buy it
- Never play an instrument after you’ve decided to sell it
- If it makes you happy, fuck everyone else’s opinion
